T-Mobile’s HSPA+ iPhone Coverage is live in parts of San Diego. The coverage for 3G/HSPA+ is spotty in some areas and non-existent in Downtown. Over by the shop in La Jolla you can find 3G as well.

iamPhones’ recently had an iPhone 5 put on T-Mobile and we’ve had mixed reviews. On the up side, we’re noticing better and better performance and coverage almost daily. When in a HSPA+ area, we can get from 10-12 Mbps down, 2 Mbps up. Now, keep in mind that these speeds are not as blazing fast as you would see on Verizon or AT&T LTE variants. But remember, up until recently iPhone/iPad owners couldn’t receive anything faster than EDGE speeds. This incredible increase in speed will make the iPhone/iOS experience even greater for these users.

Are you on an unlocked iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, or 5? Receiving 3G-HSPA+ speeds? Where are you located and send us speed tests!

I guess the axe had to fall at some point. There was simply too much backlash about Apple’s newly implemented Maps application for iOS6+. Reportedly, Apple has fired the one in charge of Maps, Richard Williamson.

Honestly, I feel the whole Maps issue got blown out of proportion. Yes, it was/is flawed. It is beautiful, not perfect. Get used to it, that’s the way of the world. I’ll admit on my iPhone 5 I had some times that it wouldn’t list an address correctly, and one time where it took me around an extra block that was unnecessary. But, c’mon, we’re talking about a huge backlash against iOS6, and in many cases hesitance to upgrade due to this new mapping system. But, was it all really necessary? Was it that big of a deal? Now I’m not saying that Apple’s recent layoff is unjustified. If the man didn’t do his job up to Apple’s standards, by all means, it’s their company to operate. But, for us to let something snowball into such an uproar that ultimately led to Williamson’s demise at Apple, are we partially responsible?

They’re almost heeeeeeere! It’s no surprise that the iPhone 5′s redesigned body did away with the number one customization option on the iPhone 4/4S : Customized Back Glass. Now, unfortunately, the back and side bezel of the iPhone 5 are one complete part so any wishful customization will be A) Very expensive, and B) Not a simple task (compared to the iPhone 4/4S).

We’re here to help you express yourself with up to 5 Home Button colors to start with:
RED , YELLOW , LIGHT BLUE , GREEN , and PINK.

These will also come with a new rubber gasket seal so you won’t need to remove the old one from your standard Black or White Home Button.

Want to install it yourself? That’ll be just $9.99. Need us to install it for you? We’ll get you a Home Button + Installation + Return Shipping for just $35.

If you’re a Mr. (or Mrs.) Know-It-All, you can purchase these from our site here within the next few days for just $9.99. Not as tech-savvy? Not a problem, that’s why we’re here! We would be happy to install your home button onto your iPhone 5 for $40 total (The $35 includes a home button, installation, and return shipping). Need more than one? Sure we’ll give you a discount! Just contact us and we’ll get an invoice over to you via Paypal or Google Wallet/Checkout.

We’ll create another post when they’re actually available for sale. Want to be ahead of the crowd? Like us on Facebook or Follow Us on Twitter (or both) and you’ll be informed immediately!

On this episode you’ll find housewives smuggling iPhones and iPads into China. You read that right… into China, the technology birthplace of the world. Apparently import taxes and luxury duties are so steep in China that smugglers will use suitcases or in this case, housewives, to sneak iPhones and iPads in which are then passed on to scalpers.

On Wednesday, more than 20 suppliers were tried in Shenzhen court for smuggling more than $80 million from Hong Kong over the past couple of years. Of these suspects, about half were described as housewives who regularly travel to Hong Kong and receive 20 to 30 yuan in “commission” for each phone/tablet brought back to the mainland.

20-30 yuan is the equivalent of about $3-$5 USD.

Next time you’re at that drive-thru window, remember that the cost of that meal is the equivalent of smuggling 2-3 devices, illegally into China. We’ve got it a lot better than others in other parts of the world, never forget that. It definitely puts things in perspective, without a doubt.

Los Angeles, dubbed the “City of Angels”, is soon to be the city of Sprint LTE. This past weekend while in Los Angeles, I looked down at my phone while driving (I know, I know!) and to much of my delight, I saw the three most beautiful letters I’ve ever seen following Sprint. You guessed it, LTE. All I can say is, “It’s about time!”. Now, this being said, LA seems to still be far from a full-blown LTE rollout, but something is better than nothing.

“It’s about time!”

I was on Santa Monica Boulevard at the intersection of Sepulveda, near the 405 freeway entrance. While at a stoplight I ran a quick speed test, and how very quick it turned out to be! I was able to pull over 17Mbps down and about 4.5Mbps up (SpeedTest picture attached). Now, this still isn’t Big Red (Verizon) fast, but a much welcome surprise to a long time SoCal Sprint user nonetheless. Now, if Sprint could just hurry up with San Diego LTE we would be golden!

What speeds have you been able to pull on Sprint’s LTE network?

Several mockups and renderings of the iPhone 5 have been released over the previous weeks. Of course, it’s not official until Apple says so. We all learned…

Several mockups and renderings of the iPhone 5 have been released over the previous weeks. Of course, it’s not official until Apple says so. We all learned all too well during the iPhone 4S announcement that all previous renderings were incorrect.

With that said, we believe to have some backbone to a few renderings of the next iPhone’s Mid-Frame Bezel. A supplier has informed us of two different color SIM Card Trays being made available for the next iPhone, Black and Silver. It would only make sense for the Sim Card Tray to be the same color as the bezel of the phone. This gives credit to the rendering photo above showing the Black/Gun Metal Bezel of the Black Next-Gen iPhone, and the familiar Silver Bezel of the White version.

If the Bezels are removable, we’ll be swapping the Black Bezel onto the White iPhone 5 as soon as possible.

One thing is to be certain, this means that iamPhones will be customizing the next generation iPhone upon release. If the Bezels are removable, we’ll be swapping the Black Bezel onto the White iPhone 5 as soon as possible.

We won’t know the legitimacy of these leaks and renderings for sure until the September 12th Event, where the inevitable next iPhone will be announced. Keep your eyes on iamPhones.com for future updates.

Update:

We have since discovered that the Bezel and Back of the iPhone 5 are one complete part. They cannot be separated. Bummer.
